VI. Assessment and accreditation procedures

A co-counselling community has some right to have a say in the accreditation of would-be teachers who expect the people they train to become active co-counsellors within the community. If the community is to accept these people, then it needs to have some say in approving the competence of the teacher to train them adequately. Here is one approach.

The would-be teacher, after some appropriate teacher training, meets with a representative group of her community peers - 6 or 8 persons whose experience is relevant to the procedure.

Credibility, Accreditation and Certification

Intro

There has been a lot of discussion recently within Co-Counselling International (CCI) about promoting co-counselling. However, we would argue that, in order for any promotion to be worthwhile and effective, Co-Counselling needs to improve its credibility. It needs to be seen as a credible approach, both by people in general, and, particularly, by professionals who might refer people to it.

Recognising critical situations in a coco session by client and counsellor

Harvesting the notes made by JanPieter, John, Lilian and Marjan.

Compiled by JanPieter

Intro

We came together in Lilian’s house the 6th of May, the day after McCoCo 2014.

We started with reading the questions. Next we had free flowing sharings, directly or indirectly linked to the questions. This document is the gathering of the individual notes of these sharings.

The original questions

The client

What critical situations in a session does a CLIENT need to be able to recognise in order to have a successful session?

Accreditation procedure

Accreditation procedure

The teacher says:

‘Before we go any further, I want you all to know that  if I had any serious concerns about your ability to become a CCI co-counsellor you would have heard this from me before now, so that we could have discussed it.

Now, please first read the criteria for accreditation below. Students read the text below.

  •  ‘(Name), how well do you think you meet the Criteria for accreditation?’ (e.g. very well, well enough, just about well enough, not well enough)
