Following on from the successful October Mediation Event, facilitated by Paul Holder, the November training event is an opportunity for you to learn some mediation skills.  These use an alternative model to the co-counselling conflict resolution process.  They can be used to channel the tension in disagreement and conflict to produce constructive outcomes.

By the end of the training workshop participants should:

  • Have explored assumptions and outlooks on conflict and have understood the dynamics of disputes.
  • Have understood and explored communication tools to turn antagonism into co-operation.
  • Have understood the key principle that mediators use to develop agreement between disputing parties. (ie interest based negotiation)
  • Have understood and applied a practical method of mapping contentious issues which encourages win/win outcomes.
  • Be able to identify your own personal vulnerabilities that might otherwise undermine the application of win/win strategies.
  • Increased their understanding of consensus decision making.

You will be able to try out the ideas introduced, through the use of structured hands on activities, case studies, mini sessions, and discussion in an enjoyable, and supportive learning environment.  This is a skills and knowledge building training workshop.  Learning handouts will be provided.

Expect to come to a lively and enjoyable day, and to leave with some refreshing new perspectives on resolving conflict.

We hope that this skill base will be an ongoing resource for you and your community.
